You already know that the Internet and poker are a perfect marriage. You may already be playing online on a regular basis. But the Internet is more than just a tool for playing online. There are also websites that discuss and provide valuable information about the game of poker, such as www.cardplayer.com and www.pokerpages.com. In addition, there are some sites where you can download some key poker tools.

Visit www.poker-academy.com and you will be given the opportunity to download a free demo of their Poker Academy software. The Poker Academy software allows you to play against opponents of different strengths and styles and then analyzes those games for you to study later. It also gives you in-game advice and compiles data on how your actions affected your bankroll. It can be a useful way to gain experience and information before sitting down at a real money game. The demo is free, but to use the program extensively, you'll need to order the software.

Another very popular download is the Poker Tracker, at www.pokertracker.com. Poker Tracker, for Windows, allows you to analyze your actual play on various online poker sites. Most sites allow you an option where you can download hand histories of the games you've played. Simply input the hand history information into Poker Tracker and the software will calculate a vast array of information that can help you in your games. It can tell you how often you see the flop, how often you bet and how much you typically win or lose. More importantly, it can compile similar information on your opponents, so that the next time you face them you will be armed with information they cannot imagine you have. Poker Tracker allows you to input 1,000 hands for free, if you want more than that, you'll have to pay $55 for a registration code.

Poker tracking software and Poker game demos as listed above are among the most popular kind of poker downloads and these two are among the best in those groups. Another online poker resource you should take advantage of is www.twodimes.net. Twodimes.net is a poker odds calculator that you can use to tell you the likelihood of a particular hand winning against another particular hand. There are fields for the game you are playing, the cards out on the board and the cards you and your opponent are holding. There's even a field for dead cards that aren't in play. A sample hands link will show you how to input the information if you aren't clear. This program takes all the guesswork out of whether you should have played your flush draw when you knew your opponent had a set, or whether the pot odds justify you calling with pocket eights. You can even use it to practice, see if you can guess how certain hands do against each other, then let Two Dimes figure it out for you.

As you can see, the internet can do more for your poker game than just give you a place to play. Make full use of your internet resources and your bankroll will thank you in the long run.

Roulette is a game of chance, but that doesn’t mean you can’t win at roulette you can.

All you need to do is to be able to play the correct table and know the best bets, it’s that easy!

The wrong way to win at roulette

Many players go about trying to win at roulette the wrong way by using a system, to help get the odds in their favour. Problem is they don’t work.

If it’s a game of chance (and roulette is) every spin is independent of every other and systems cannot by definition work.

If the ball falls on red 55 times in a row or 155 times the odds still remain 50 - 50 for the next spin. Past data is of no use to predict the future, so forget systems.

Getting the odds in your favour

Many players believe in luck and their time is due, but to win at roulette you need to simply do two things, the odds are as good as their going to be and for a game of chance at 1.35% in favour of the house there pretty good.

Two ways to win at roulette

There are only two things you need to know to win at roulette:

Play the table with the best odds and place the bets with the best odds, that’s it. You then have as much chance to win at roulette as any other player and will have reduced the house edge as low as you can.

Here are the two factors to keep in mind to win at roulette

    Play the European wheel

The European wheel has 37 slots with a single 0; the American wheel has an extra slot, a 00 to making 38 slots, the upshot of this is that the house advantage is bigger on the American table.

The house edge is 5.26% for the American wheel but only 2.7% for the European wheel, so you need to play this table to cut the

    house advantage.

    Best odds

Use bets whose odds are similar to their payouts, betting on Even, Odd, Low, (numbers 1 to 18), High, (numbers 19 to 36), Red, or Black.

These bets pay out odds of 1: 1. Your odds of winning are just under half, making it a good way to bet, that maximizes your bankroll

    The best of all!

On many European wheels you will find a bet which takes advantage of a rule called ‘en prison.’

Players can place an even money bet and the ball lands on zero, however you don’t lose your bet.

Your bet is carried forward to the next spin or ‘imprisoned’. If your bet wins, you take it back.

The house edge is just 1.35%, making it the bet with the best odds of all to win at roulette.

Stay away from all other bets as the odds are to long and you will lose over time.

The above bets will get the odds in your favor as much as possible and help you win at roulette.

Roulette is a great fun game and cannot be beaten for excitement and glamour.

It’s a nice break from more intense games of skill like blackjack or poker and the fact you can play with a small house edge against you is an added bonus and maximizes your chances of winning at roulette.

Although a slot machine game, Video Poker slots if you use strategy you can put the odds in your favor, which makes them highly attractive compared to normal online slots.

Video poker slots also bridge the gap between simple slot machines and more complex table games, so it's easy, you can use some skill and if you do, it can be a really rewarding game.

Video Poker Slots is not your typical "one-armed bandit".

Here you have a chance to win, and where you make decisions and the outcome of the event. That means that the house odds (as compared to normal slots) can be lower if you play right and with a set strategy.

    Here is How to Play

As most poker games, Video Poker Slots is also based on classic 5 card draw poker and basically uses the same rules.

The major difference of course is that you are not playing against other players, just a computer.

After an initial bet (putting coins in the slot) the machine deals five cards on the screen. At this point, the player can take up to five cards.

The player can retain the cards desired by pressing the ″hold″ button corresponding to individual cards shown and discard the rest.

When the player has decided what to keep and what to replace, he presses the ″deal″ button, and the cards discarded are replaced by new cards.

The game is now actually over.

The player wins or loses by the poker hand ranking system, and how much a player wins (if at all) is shown on the pay table.

What the Pay Table Means – How to Read it

A distinct advantage video poker has over other the other slot machines are the reward from winning can be calculated by reading the pay table on the front of the machine.

As video poker uses a 52 card deck (or a 54 card deck employing 2 jokers) there are only so many combinations of hands that can be made.

It is the number of combinations that determine the payout, and these are based on the frequency (possibility) of each winning hand.

In fact, there are 2,598,960 possible hand combinations from a 52-card deck.

The computer chip in a video poker machine is designed to simulate the probabilities of drawing any of these combinations in a random manner.

As these are fixed probabilities, the casino has adjusted the pay table of the online machines to produce the house edge which equals their long term profit.

How to Win – Despite the Odds

Even though there is a house edge against you, there are some tips to help you around those and to win by getting the odds more in your favor

    1. Play maximum coins

    Never bet one coin.

Always bet the full five coins and all winning hands are paid out by a factor of five (except for the royal flush). This is the incentive given as a bonus to play five coins.

All who plays less than maximum coins are just contributing to a royal flush jackpot and you need to win it to make money longer term so don't contribute just for someone else to win it!

    2. Be on the lookout for favorable payouts

Before you start playing, be on the lookout of only for machine with the most favorable payouts.

You will find the payouts for all video poker machines are the same, except for the flush, full house, or royal flush.

So, a 9 / 6 will generally hit the royal flush once for each 40,000 hands. The 8 / 5 odds are once for each 45,000 hands etc – So try and play 9 / 6 machines only. Play the 9/6 machine and you increase your odds of success.

    3. Do your homework

You can find on the net, free strategy cards for various video poker slot games. There free, so take some time to study them, and get your strategy firmly in place before you begin to play.

    4. Don't Rush Your Game!

Relax, chill, and take your time.

The machine is not in a hurry and neither should you be take time to play correctly. You receive nothing extra for playing quickly.

Video Poker Slots still the Best Slot for the money

You get all the fun and excitement as you do from the other slots, except Video Poker Slots can give you some chance as it's interactive and the outcome is dependant to a degree on the actions you take.

Visually, video slot machines offer a great graphics so if you want a visually great game that allows you to use some skill without taxing your brain to much them video poker slots are a great game to play

So in conclusion, video poker slots give you the opportunity to influence the odds in your favor a bit and can win.

No limit holdem tournament and cash games reward those players that can get their opponents to do what they want them to do at the exact right time. This is a strategy I like to call training my opponents. What I am doing in fact, is training them to give their complete stack to me. In sit and go tournaments this is especially critical a skill, as you have a limited time to pull it off. I would estimate that of all the sit and go tournaments that I place in the money, I have trained at least one of my opponents during that time, and captured his stack.

To pull this strategy off, you essentially have to encourage your opponent's lack of emotional control to the surface of his game, and especially when playing against you. You may think this inherently involves being aggressive with assertive pre and post flop betting. In many cases that may be true, but there is also opportunity for training your opponent by while acting passively.

It is rather a simple procedure to do this when you are chip leader. In position, you should be raising frequently. You don't even have to make significant raises. When the blinds get juicy enough a minimum raise when the big blind is 100 may suffice. Depending on your stack, you should try for 300 chip raise in that spot though. However when the blinds get to 100 and 200, there are usually players on the bubble, so a minraise is just fine. The reason you do this twofold. You are looking to increase your chip lead while avoiding flops. If you feel your opponents are likely to fold it doesn't matter what your cards are. Play it blind. If your opponents fold 2 of 3 times, your stack will grow and your aggressive index will be of the charts.

The other reason you want to do this is that the move will disguise a quality hand when you have it. That is when the training comes in. If you have raised an opponent out of the pot preflop several times, he is bound to bounce back on at some time or another.

What do you do then? Well depending on your stack size and hand strength, you could call based on pot odds. Let's say you have 86s and it's only another 450 to call into a pot of 800. To me that is an easy call.

If the odds simply are not constructive, then fold. Fold with dignity not anger. Fold with an understanding of the game, not frustration with it. You see, your opponent's reraise all in is exactly what you want him to do, whether you win the pot, lose it, or concede it.

You may also be in a short table position where you are the short stack. In this situation your big stack opponent is likely to be playing aggressive with you. Fold until you get a quality hand and just call his bets until the river, then reraise all in. He will soon be more cautious with you, and will mark his preflop betting to the point where you will get to see some cheap flops with low quality hands.

The concept here is that you will take his stack, or double up at an opportune time – likely when he loses his cool and makes an abrasive reraise all in when you have the goods. You have then trained him effectively.

Without a training strategy you are much more reliant on quality hands and more easily readable. You simply are not going to get paid off as often. And when you do get a quality hand, another player will have an equally strong hand (or at least competitive) and may very likely win a big pot from you.

At the moment, online poker play and betting strategies are in their infancy. Betting often follows very basic patterns and online play is no where near as sophisticated as it might be simply because a lot of players are not experienced or seasoned at the table.

Most of the games played online leave a lot to be desired in terms of sophistication. That said, it’s a lot easier, at least in theory, to test and practice new betting and play strategies when you’re playing online so try a few of the suggested strategies below if you’re looking to improve your game.

How you bet and play depends on the type of poker you’re playing (Texas Hold’em, Draw Poker, Stud Poker, etc). But regardless of the game, the first and most important strategic decisions is whether or not to play with the cards you are dealt at the beginning of the round. When you’re playing classic poker, say, draw poker with five cards in a draw, your odds of having a playable hand are easier to assess, compared to the two cards you have in Texas Hold’em. It’s simply a case of probability. If you have three kings, an ace, and a queen, you know that odds of your opponents having similar high cards are reduced by sizeable factors. Only one of your opponents can have a king, for example.

One of the most effective strategies at the beginning of the round is to analyze the value of your cards based upon their intrinsic value – their value in the deck – and the additional value based on your position at the table. Reviewing the cards themselves is easy enough, but you need to take into account your position at the table with an understanding of what the different position do to the value of your cards and to the value of your opponents’ cards.

In poker, there are four table positions: the dealer position, the early position, the middle position, and the end position. When someone says, “I’ve got position on you”, they’re sitting to your left and will always make their play after you’ve made yours.

As a general rule, the closer you are to the end position, the better for you’re bet. In end position, you have the luxury of reviewing the bets of your opponents and, with a keen eye for what’s going on, you can get a good picture of what’s going on before you bet. The dealer or players in the beginning and middle positions don’t get nearly so good an understanding of the cards as you do before they bet each round.

However, the experienced player will learn how to make the most of their position regardless of what it is. After all, you can’t always be in the end position during a long game.

Regardless of your position, you should raise in Texas Hold’em with AA-QQ, AKs, JJ, TT, AK, and AQs. Applying this as a standard, when you have sets or values in Draw Poker or Stud Poker, you should raise or reraise if there has already been a raise by one of your opponent. If no one raises the pot and you’re in the end position, in Texas Hold’em you can call with pair values as low as 88 or 99; make the play with similar card values, adjusting for the type of poker you’re playing.

Remember that the objective is to establish the odds of your opponents having better cards than you. Being alert to your opponents’ actions is an important step to assessing what your own should be.

Regarding specific card combinations and your response – whether to raise, reraise, call, or fold – there’s plenty of schools of thought about how you should bet according to your position. Most advocate choosing a method of bidding, a set of rules to follow religiously. In reality though, poker is a game played by human beings. Yes, your opponents are human and with that in mind, you should consider basic psychology as a component for your betting strategies.

You should read up on all types of betting strategies if you’re an avid player and you want to win. You should read about all the different combinations and how different schools suggest you play them because this is yet another way of increasing your ability to assess whether your hand is the strongest out there.

An understanding of your opponents’ bets is going to boost the odds of you being right about the value of your own hand. If you happen to play bridge, you’ll know the strategy of placing the points and then the cards based on the bidding and the play. If you employ a similar card-placing technique at poker, you’ll be well on your way to making your bets near to infallible.

If you've ever watched a poker tournament either in person, or on television you've heard a lot of discussion about poker odds. Calculating poker odds is a key element in winning at poker, but it's not always easy. In fact some people claim that poker is not really gambling at all because there is more skill than luck involved. If you're looking to calculate the odds in a poker game, a lot depends on the type of game you're playing and who you're playing against.

For example, if you are playing a game such as Caribbean Stud Poker where you're playing against the house you can be sure that the overall poker odds are always in favor of the house. On the other hand in a game like Texas Hold'em you're up against other players and the overall poker odds for each player are the same. So in that game the player needs to calculate the odds of winning each hand. Sometimes that can be easy to do. If you start off your hand with an Ace and King of the same suit you know you have a reasonably good chance of getting additional cards to help your hand so it's worth at least seeing a three card flop.

However, if your first two hole cards are a seven and a deuce you should fold because the odds of winning with those cards are among the worst. If you're serious about playing poker and calculating poker odds there are many professionals that have published books or articles that can help. Don't rely on luck alone. Always trust the odds.

Online casinos are very fun for all players, but they can be especially enjoyable for ″newbies.″ Newbies are generally inexperienced gamblers, and so they often suffer huge losses. Playing in online casinos can help prevent newbies from being taken advantage of, or losing big. Online casinos are also a great way to practice for real casinos.

Newbies generally have very little knowledge about many casino games. The lack of knowledge often results in tremendous gambling losses. Online casinos are a great place for newbies because many online casinos offer detailed descriptions of many different games. Some casino games may seem overly complicated, but many online casinos offer descriptions that are very easy to understand. Game instruction can sometimes start from the very basic elements and principals of the game, to the most advanced techniques for betting and winning. Additionally, other online casinos offer tips and strategies for being more successful in a game. Some sites can list common mistakes that unskilled players make. Finally, there are large communities in online casinos. Some even have chat rooms and message boards. Newbies can learn from other more experienced players, and discuss game strategies and betting.

Online casinos are also great for inexperienced players because players choose the level of skill for many games. In poker games, newbies can choose to go to lower stakes tables, which often have more inexperienced players. Also, players can sometimes go to games that are specifically for new gamblers. This is a great way to learn the basics of a game without having to endure huge monetary penalties for having a lack of knowledge about the game.

Real casinos are very fun, but for new players, they can be a bit overwhelming. For someone who is interested in eventually playing games in a real casino, playing in online casinos is a viable option. Reading the basics about many different games, and being able to play from your own home is a great advantage. The environment is not as high-pressure as in a regular casino, and therefore new players can focus more upon the task at hand. In terms of cards, playing online allows you to play more players from around the world. Many players have different strategies, and being exposed to as many different playing styles as possible allows newbies to be better prepared.

Finally, online casinos are a great solace for inexperienced players because of a friendly environment. Playing online games with other people is a great way for new players to make many friends. Some casinos can be very cold, but because of the sheer amount of online casino members, players can meet many different types of people.

Online casino gambling can be a very fun and potentially financially rewarding experience. Online casinos are a great place for newbies because many online casinos have pages with detailed explanations about every game, as well as basic strategy. In online casinos, new players can meet other players from around the world and discuss things like strategy. It’s always tough for a ″newbie,″ but online casinos make it easier and more fun to gamble.

Online casinos have many ways to ″trick you″ into gambling. One of the most common ways is offering casino bonuses, which can be divided into several categories. Let’s talk about match bonuses (or online casino sign-up bonuses) today, as it’s the most common online casino bonus.

Match bonuses are often seemingly big in numbers (sign-up bonus as big as $3000 is not a rare thing to see nowadays). Many of these bonuses are very tricky, making withdrawing your winnings as hard as possible. Several players have quit playing at those casinos after they’ve understood that there’s no easy way to gain profit with this bonus. They feel that they’ve been tricked. Hell yeah, I can’t blame them!

Some of these match bonuses really are absurd. Even though, players in these days are not retarded - many of them know that the $888 ″free money″ means cosmic deposits and serious betting activity with real money, leading us to a fact that in the end you’re probably back to ZERO, angry and have no plans to return there.

Online casinos and poker rooms are extremely cautious giving bonuses away. Usually you as a player are not allowed to play blackjack, roulette and craps with your bonus money. And often you can’t withdraw your winnings if you have less than 10x bonus gathered on your casino account. My personal best has been 134 dollars with $16 dollars no deposit bonus money… of course, I gambled it down to zero. I was 26 bucks short to withdraw.

Some casinos (not the ones I prefer!) can afford those high bonuses only because they have low payouts. Not many online gamblers look at payouts when choosing a casino, so beware!

In some cases match bonuses can be used against casinos, but be sure to learn the rules before you start any monkeygambling.

Since the Party Poker collapse last fall, Poker Stars has emerged as the indisputable leader in sheer numbers of online poker players. They have the biggest tournaments, the most active tables, the biggest cash games, and the quickest filling sit and go tournaments online. With that comes power - the power to choose your partners, affiliates, and closer to our point; acceptable software.

Long have I been recommending Holdem Hawk and Holdem Pirate (they are actually the same) poker calculators as easy to use and visibly pleasing poker calculators. Recently though, these products have pushed the boundaries of acceptable use, at least in the view of Poker Stars, and hence have been banned from use on that site. This is sad news, as a decent product, not unlike some of the acceptable software allowed by Stars, is now virtually grounded because the biggest poker site on the planet thinks it's too closely related to an Operative Poker Calculator.

An Operative Poker Calculator is like a secret agent working for you, collecting and mining player information that you can use against them later on. The thing is, you don't have to be at the table for this to happen. The software (database) is working all the time for you. For most poker sites, that is over the line of fairness, just as in real life as well.

But Holdem Pirate and Holdem Hawk are actually Empirical Poker Calculators, just the same as Holdem Indicator is. These types of poker calculators only collect information on your opponents when you are at the table, just like you were playing in a live situation.

So why the Poker Stars Smack? Here is an actual warning I received from Poker Stars while running Holdem Pirate:

Upon a review of your account, we find that you are running an external application known as Poker Sherlock, or its related applications, Poker Edge, PokerBotPro, Holdem Hawk and Holdem Pirate……PokerStars shall be entitled to take such action as it sees fit, including immediately blocking access to the Games to such User, terminating such User’s account with PokerStars and seizing all monies held in the relevant Poker Stars ″real money account″.

Hey, did you notice the "seizing all monies" line? That's what you can do when you are this big!

The "related applications" is the source of the problem. The company that designed Hawk and Pirate also make Poker Edge and PokerBotPro, which are data miners. In fact, I believe that Stars suspects Hawk and Pirate actually mine data for these related products, while appearing like an Empirical Poker Calculator on the surface.

So therein lays the crux of the problem. If you happen to play on Stars and have Hawk or Pirate, you are out of luck, as I have tried to reverse this ruling. I got a polite response from the staff at Poker Stars, but really, it's not likely to change. The good news though is that Holdem Indicator has been added to Poker Stars acceptable software list, and it is the only empirical calculator to be approved by them.
