Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker variations. It's a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of betting follows where gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants often get confused. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can be everyone's hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone's, it doesn't matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It's the same approach in just about all poker games.

A lower hand is more complicated, but really opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there's no low hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.

While it seems difficult initially, following a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental nuances of play easily enough. Since you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming collection of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have many individuals battling for the high, along with several trying for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha hi-low.
