Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he's picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
