Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha 8 or better begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of betting happens. After all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. Another round of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where many players get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold 'Em, in which the board can be everyone's hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize exactly three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It's the best possible hand out of everyone's, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical approach in nearly every poker game.

The low hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don't count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there's no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem complicated at first, after a couple of hands you will be able to get the basic nuances of the game easily enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting assortment of betting options and owing to the fact that you have numerous players trying for the high, as well as several shooting for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha/8.
