Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he liked taking part in various card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was playing his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little while and moved away to New York to play some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard's 1st 2 years were tough as he played extensive hours and fail to win most times. He made some additional cash by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he might better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and focus more on the game.

The actual improvement in his game happened when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would often compete against each other. He was able to access a few of the best minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would tweak his strategic thinking abilities. Howard used these strategic ideas in the game of No-Limit texas hold'em.

Howard also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master poker. She was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest female players the poker world today. He headed to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the following 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
