Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn't a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he's picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
