Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he liked playing different card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these card games as he was playing his dad. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little while and relocated to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard's 1st two years were tough as he played countless hours and lost most times. He made some additional money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he might improve his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to acquire more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.

The actual improvement in his game happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would often challenge each other. Howard had access into several of the foremost players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would tweak his cunning thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. Annie was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. He headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the subsequent 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
