Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn't a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
