Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve closing poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu's full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While participating in web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can't buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world might be players you have won't have heard of before. Gus can be seen playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha/8 and texas hold'em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
