Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn't allow the detrimental comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn't a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
