Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from others annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he's picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
