Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't let the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn't a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he's picking up skills every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
