Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn't a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil states that he's picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
