Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn't a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
