Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he's picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
